Featured Artist for October 12: Guster

Since their founding in Boston back in 1991, the members of Guster have won fans and delighted audiences with a unique blend of songcraft, clever instrumentation and unabashed humour. The band has recently released a new album, Easy Wonderful, so now is a perfect time to showcase their music.

The group was formed when Adam Gardner, Ryan Miller, and Brian Rosenworcel, freshmen at Tufts University, started a band under the name Gus. Still in college, the group released their first album Parachutes in 1994 before a conflict with another act performing as Gus forced a name change to Guster.

Building up a significant living following, the band independently released Goldfly in 1997, attracting the attention of Sire Records, who signed the band and promptly rereleased the album under their label. 1999 saw the band release Lost And Gone Forever, and success was soon within reach when the song "Fa Fa" became a hit single and won Guster a spot on Late Night With David Letterman.

The band's fame continued to grow as Keep It Together (2003) and Ganging Up On The Sun (2006) spawned more hit singles ("Amsterdam," "Satellite," "One Man Wrecking Machine") and earned growing radio play. The live album and DVD Guster On Ice (recorded in Portland, Maine) was also released in late 2003. The band looks to continue their success with 2010's Easy Wonderful and, if early buzz is any indication, they have another hit on their hands. Check out the band's web site for a look at some ridiculously entertaining videos in support of the new album.

And of course, tune in to Up All Night as we feature songs from throughout Guster's career. And if you have any requests for your own Guster faves, drop a note in the comments section and cross those fingers!
