Featured Artist for October 5: Paper Lions
From brothers and boyhood friends in Belfest, Prince Edward Island to the cusp of major success across Canada and the world, Paper Lions have come a long way in a short time. As the Chucky Danger Band siblings John and Rob MacPhee, neighbour Colin Buchanan and high school mate David MacDonald brokered clever songwriting, electrifying live performances and down-home charm into a legion of followers from coast to coast. Tiring of their initial moniker, the band took the name Paper Lions in early 2008 and haven't looked back.
They've released two full length albums to date: Colour in 2006 and their eponymous album in 2007. Their smoking live act has crossed the country several times, appearing alongside such names as CAKE, The Rheostatics, Joel Plaskett, The Golden Dogs, and Hey Rosetta! Along they way, Paper Lions have garnered a whopping 10 East Coast Music Awards nominations, snagging the Pop Recording of the Year prize in 2006.
A new EP Trophies has been released this past week and, as expected, it's an absolute gem. (Check out the video for their new song 'Lost The War' and you'll agree.) The boys are presently touring Canada to support the record, with a scheduled stop in Calgary on October 21 at The Republik with supporting acts Library Voices and Bend Sinister. (Click here for event and ticket info.)
Join us at Up All Night in welcoming Paper Lions to Calgary with a special presentation of music from throughout their career, including a healthy dose of new tunes from Trophies. And make sure to check out their live show - it's a guaranteed great night out!
